Dear member of the Telemac community,

I am considering to make simulations with mixed sediments (non cohesive sand and cohesive mud). According to the manual (still at version 6.3 if I'm correct) and the few examples available with the source code (version 7.2), it seems that this comes with the following consequences:

1) only 2 classes can be used (one non cohesive, one non cohesive)
2) no be load transport can be considered
3) mud consolidation can only be considered with option 1 (multilayer model of Walther)

Is that correct? If so, is there any plan to change that in the future?

Hi Olivier,
Yes, this is correct. Please also take a look to the new manual of Sisyphe.
In the next few months we are planning to start some developments to expand de capability of the model when mixed sediments are present.
We will keep you informed.

Best wishes,

Pablo

Hi Pablo,

In the new manual (very clear, by the way), it is written (p52): "The consolidation of the sand/mud mixture has not been yet implemented."

However, if I look at the code, it seems that option 1 (multilayer model of Walther) if possible (as I said in the first post of this thread). In that case, sand transfer from a layer to another is equal to corresponding mud transfer.

Is that correct? Or the manual is right and consolidation is only possible when only cohesive sediments are considered?

Hi Olivier,
Many thanks.
Yes, you have reason, the model of Walther consider this process in a simplified way. Actually I need to modify this phrase, as there are more sophisticated models now in the literature that account for the interactions between both sediment types in a unified framework. More on that soon...

Cheers,

Pablo
