open TELEMAC-MASCARET The mathematically superior suite of solvers

Dear all,

I´ve being using TELEMAC for just a couple weeks now. I´ve installed the version v6p2 using the automatic installer available at the download section of the website.

Now I want to migrate and use the version will parallel processor, so my first question is can I do that after having used the Automatic Installer?

My second question regards the MPICH. I was reading the procedure available in the "Installation procedure with Python" under "Parallel Setup" where it says to install the MPICH2 software available for download. The things is that I´ve goe the website and everything that I can download is not "self-installing" as the tutorial in the website says. I´ve tried to make it work buy haven´t beeing able to. Does anyone know what I´m doing wrong?

I haven't used the 'Automatic Installer' version, but I believe using it doesn't mean it forbids doing a manual installation of the parallel version afterwards. I assume that you have to skip the steps that have been done automatically, i.e. python installation, gfortran installation, PATH environmental variables etc.

If you want do do a parallel installation, I believe you need to install mpich2, download the pre-compiled METIS library and configure the systel.cfg file for a parallel configuration.

Try do follow the installation instructions with python on the website and also have a look at this thread:

To do a manual installation requires a bit more effort but you get a much better insight.

Thank you for your reply. I´ve read the post you recommended and I think it will work, but I´ve tried to download the MPICH2 form the website but I haven´t been able to make it work. I downloaded mpich-3.0.4.tar and hydra-3.0.4.tar but it doesn´t seen to work. Am I getting the right ones?

mpich-3.0.4.tar and hydra-3.0.4 are sources that are not compatible with windows. Development in MPICH2 for windows has stopped and the last working version is 1.4.1p1.

You can download the binaries from the downloads page:

http://www.mpich.org/downloads/

There are 2 versions, 32bit and 64bit. You need the 64bit if you are to compile with gfortran, because the pre-compiled METIS library for gfortran is 64bit only. I hope your OS is 64bit, otherwise it won't work.

I´m having some problems because my knowledge on compilation and all is very limited.

I´ve downloaded the files in the post you recommender and have changed in the cfg file only the roots of the files. What else do I need to do? I ask that because I can´t compile anymore TELEMAC. Before trying to use the parallel CFG I would type "telemac2d.py *.cas -c wingfor" but now It doesn´t work. I realize the command is not wingfor anymore but i can´t figure out what it is.

Another question is where do I extract the MinGW-w64 you made available? Do I have to replace somewhere?

I´ve attached the CFG file to give you the picture of what I´m talking about. It is basicaly a copy of yours. I would like to know that else is dependent of my settings.

I have been on holidays for the past 2 weeks. In the meantime, v6p3 has been released along with an automatic installation. Have you tried it?

I haven't found the time to check v6p3, but I will do so soon.

I´ve been able to move to the installation but as I download the source code I get stuck at the file v6p3\examples\telemac2d\estu_gir\oilspill.txt
