Hi there,

Sorry for the number of recent posts... I'm a beginner with all of this.

So I installed telemac. I have a choice of two .exe in the "builds" directory : win7gfors and wing64mpi. What is the difference between both?

Thanks!

Hello,

They are both the same code but for different uses. win7gfors is for scalar uses (NUMBER OF PROCESSOR = 0) and wing64mpi is for parallel uses (NUMBER OF PROCESSOR > 1) which run on more than one processor.

Hope this helps,
Sébastien

Ok!

For my understanding, if I have a computer with 1 intel i7 quadcore, then I can use wing64mpi for enhanced performance? Or if 1 processor that emulates 4 count as only 1?

Many thanks,

Indeed, you can use all 4 cores as if they were 4 processors -- your windows operating system become slow though. In that case, your domain is split in four puzzle pieces and each piece is run on its own core.

Note that you could also get several computers togethers to increase the number of cores/processors.

... by the way, you should not use these executable directly. The running scripts will call them if necessary.

Hope this help too.
Sébastien.

If you run under FUDAA you will not see the scripts -- these are hidden to make your life a little easier, but if you run TELEMAC from a command windows, the scripts are written either in Perl or Python. With Python, for instance, you can run TELEMAC by typing telemac.py -s casfile, where casfile is your steering file. With Perl you have to run telemac.bat -s casfile

I recommend you run with python.
