Hi

This may be a very simple question but so far it has beaten me. I am trying to model a river entering the sea, the tidal model works, however the bathymetry of the river has positive depths. I have added a liquid boundary with prescribed q at the river head and added a source there.

As im understanding it the river does not flow because there is no negative water depths (i have experimented by turning the river depths to negative depths and get a flow, however the tide interacts with the river up the full length).

Many thanks for any help.

Hello,

This is just a guess, as I haven't worked with rivers the way you are working, but what if you try to prescribe a values of elevation, flowrate and velocity at the river head?

To do so use the keywords: PRESCRIBED ELEVATIONS and PRESCRIBED FLOWRATES

Maybe this works.

Best Regards,

Phelype

Many thanks for your reply. Have tried this. Problem is that at this elevation river is dry so flow does not work. I have tried now to artificially modify river depths to negative values.

However problem is high tidal currents in this area combined with low river flow causes tides to come upstream to far. Will keep trying. Thanks

I have made the river depths negative to allow flow. However applying prescribed velocities, prescribed elevation and flowrates/velocities to the boundaries removes the tidal harmonics from the open sea boundaries.

I have found another post dealing with this: www.opentelemac.org/index.php/community-...r-elevation-upstream

However the fortran file there does not work (for old old version). Has the code been updated as suggested in the post to deal with this or do i have to do something else.

I am looking for a tidal simulation with tpos tide on the open sea boundaries, and prescribed flowrates, elevation and velocities on the river liquid boundary.

Only workaround i have tried is add a source in the river instead of using a liquid boundary. Many thanks

Sorry please disregard this last post, i made a mistake in the date / time. Nothing to do with the boundaries, working now. Thanks.
