TOPIC: MIssing variables into the results file

MIssing variables into the results file 7 years 5 months ago #26697

Hello

I am in the early stages of setting Telemac 3D into my whole domain area. Then I have ran an initial simulation and the simulation result seems promising as a first approach however when I reduce my domain area the results did not appear into the results files.

Please see attached the my whole domain area and my limited area (Gulf of California only).

DO you have some idea what I need to do? Because I am interesting to use the Gulf of California domain area only. For your reference I have been using the attached steering file in both simulations.

Thanks
Joel

Hi
Did you check the tpxo solution cover your small model?
I had a look into the tpxo website and I'm not sure the pacific solution include some data in the gulf of California...
This could explain why the large model works and not the small one

Hello

I have checked more details about your previous response so that I have some comments for you:

1. The Pacific Ocean model solutions from volkov.oce.orst.edu/tides/region.html include information into the Gulf of California. (please see attached picture)

2. I have ran a new simulation of the small domain using the global model solution from volkov.oce.orst.edu/tides/global.html. However there is not variables into my result file.

Do you have any other recommendation?

Thanks

Joel

Hi
You don't specify MESH TRANSFORMATION in your steering file...
Could you join the listing of simulation?

Hello

Please attached the steering file of my last simulation when I included the mesh transformation command word. However, there are still the variables missing.

Thank you

Joel

Hello

With regards to the missing values into the results file I was wondering whether might be possible that the reference point in my steering file can be affected the simulation. Therefore I have selected different domain areas where my reference point coordinate point was included. However I found the following partial conclusion based on my assumptions:

1. In the three simulation my reference point is within the domain area however only in one simulation (Mesh and domain area 005) the results variables show up in my results file.
Please see attached the figures where I plotted the mesh and my reference point.

Any suggestion to sort it out the original problem I asked for:

Thanks
Joel

Hi
I tested your model on my computer and it works well!
I just use TPXO 7.2

I have some results which seems to be logical for the first time step of simulation

Hello

Thanks but what I need to do to run my domain area satisfactory in my computer? As I mentioned previously I have tested multiple domain regions and every time I post-process the results file, the variables does not show up into the results file.

I am post processing the results file in matlab. Please see attached picture when I extracted the variables from the results file and then they are still missing.

Thank you

Joel

Hello Joel

The variables are actually there.

What it seems is that Telemac3D is not converging into a solution. This could be a problem in your numerical setup.

Does Telemac3D converges into a solution within the maximum number of iterations? Or does it print a message saying that it exceeded the maximum number of iterations?

Best regards,

Phelype

I ran your simulation and, as mentioned above, the solver does exceed the maximum number of iterations (attachment), although the relative precision is still quite good.

As a first step I would recommend you to increase the maximum number of iterations for the propagation step. This is just a precaution in case the model encounters some instability and takes longer to converge.

But the results are fine for me. One question. At which timestep do the results become NaN?

I'll do some more tests to see what I can find out.

Best regards,

Phelype
