TOPIC: Mesh refinement impact

Mesh refinement impact 6 years 6 months ago #30184

Hello Telemac users
While I was trying to model a simple dam breaking case, a strange thing happened to the velocity when the water reached the refined mesh. (see the attached pics.). What could cause that and how we can fix it?

Without pics, it's really hard to answer

I could not attach them. I do not know why. I can e-mail them.

Hi
Could you join the steering file...
Time step often play a role in such problem
There is also a mesh effect as you probably use a linear element.
Advection scheme could also be important

Hi
Could we have also an idea of the initial water depth, and the velocity compute in the model?

Yes. the initial water depth is zero everywhere except at the location of the water column. The initial velocity is zero everywhere.

Which value for the water column?
What is the velocity just upstream the refine area when flow occur
In complement, what is the mesh size (in both area)

The water depth is 1.0 m. the velocity at 0.0 s is 0 m/s. The mesh is 0.5 m and the refined mesh is 0.05 m.
