Hello,

Do we reach a steady state condition in the presnece of wind?

Hello,

Very general question... very general answer. In 3D with wind you will always have movement in 3D (whereas in 2D you can reach a situation where nothing moves, though often some breaking of symmetry also triggers movements). But your question is on steady state, and it probably depends on the case, but generally speaking we should get a steady state, it is what we got in a series of test cases done recently, including stratifications.

With best regards,

Hi!

I made some tests and I found that you reach steady state very quickly on a simple flume model. When modelling a real case with a complex geometry (see image below), steady state can also be reached, but you have to be patient (and maybe tolerate some small fluctuations on your velocity vectors). I did not have inflow into my model, only wind forcing with two open boundaries (water level). I only have a desktop machine (8 CPU), so I guess my steady state would have been even more "steady" with for example 24 CPU or a HPC (unfortunately I have to deal with time constraints...).

Best regards
