Hi everyone,

I find this forum very useful as when we ask questions, it is quickly replied by TELEMAC experts. For a young students like me (new-babie in Telemac too), I have a really good opportunity to quickly gain more knowledge about modelling :P. To be an expert in Telemac, the biggest challenge is to be good at codding, programming (e.g in Fortran).

Ok, so now turnning back my situation and questions:

A- Situation:

I intend to investigate wave interactions, erosion, sediment transport in a bay with an open boundary extending to the ocean. Tides mainly cause the change in water levels, and generating waves (winds also generate waves, but having minor effects in my area of interest)

I want to use TELEMAC model, to see how good TELEMAC model can be used for predicting hydrodynamic & sediment transport phenomena here.

I have field data (waves, winds) that need to input in the model.

B - My questions are:

1. A 3D Telemac model can help me to deal with my situation that I want to investigate?

2. Do I need a to build a Fortran file to read my field data (waves, winds as I mentioned above, assuming that the format is excel, or text files). As I have a litle experence in codding. It would be great for me if someone can instruct me or give me a Fortran file to read my data, posting here or via my email: This email address is being protected from spambots. Sorry if I post here something wrong.

Thank you & and Best Regards

I want to correct one thing from the sentence: Tides mainly cause the change in water levels, and generating waves (winds also generate waves, but having minor effects in my area of interest)

BY:

Tides mainly cause the change in water levels, dominates hydrodynamics (winds generate waves, but having minor effects on hydrodynamics)

Sorry for writing because English is my second language :(

Hello,

Generally speaking Telemac-2D and 3D should do it, I just do not know how you can directly use data on waves, to be used as a forcing on hydrodynamics, as normally we use data on wind and compute the waves with Tomawac. Maybe building a file with the same data as given by Tomawac, provided that you have these data.

JMH

Thanks JMH,

Regarding wind data, I have only data (speed, and direction) from one station that measured every 30 minutes in excel files :(

May I download wind data from ECMWF website? I have read operating manual -TOMAWAC, but I dont really understand the format of wind file.

I will spend time to read more, but could you post here an example of winds file?

Thank you so much.

Best Regards

Huy
