open TELEMAC-MASCARET The mathematically superior suite of solvers

Hi there !

On telemac2d, the key word "VARIABLE TIME-STEP" is very useful to make the time-step change during the simulation.

I want to use it on telemac3d but I think it doesn't exist, or it's not the same key word.

Does someone know if it's possible to use a variable time-step on telemac3d ?

Hello,

The variable time step was done in 2D for the finite volume algorithms and it ensures their stability with a clear theory. We would not know in 3D on what criterion or theory we would decide the value of the time step. The only theory we have is for the distributive advection schemes (N, PSI) and they organise their own time stepping within the user time step so that they remain stable.
