It might help perhaps you have a too old version installed.

That made the trick.

Thank you so much again for your substantial help. I will try to write a small manual how to install Telemac on Ubuntu 18.10 and post it here if people might need it in future.
Just question regarding this. If I like to upgrade to a newer version I basically just need to download the new source, adjust my .cfg and compile the system, right?

And tell me if you think things are missing in there as well.
