Hello,

maybe I overlooked some code but it seems to me that the slope effect correction by Soulsby (FORMULA FOR SLOPE EFFECT = 2) is not implemented for the Van Rijn bed load transport equation.
If it is right, is there a reason behind this choice?

Thanks for any hints!

Clemens

Hi Clemens,

You are right in your observation.

Soulsby's slope effect changes the critical shields parameter, i.e. te threshold above which sediment starts moving. As van Rijn's equation does not use a critical shield's parameter, it will not be affected by Soulsby's slope effect.

Thank you very much for the answer in that my observation seems correct.

That's why I was asking because personally I would consider the Van Rijn bed load formula as one of the classical threshold formulas in which the critical Shields parameter appears.

Best regards,
Clemens
