Hello,
We are currently working on Telemac3D to model current in ‘la rade de Toulon’. We start with TELEMAC 2D (successfully) and then jump to 3D considering wind only with the objective of adding Temperature profile. For some reason, we have to work with a quite large model…
Our first simulation considers a wind of 8m/s from the West. We select boundary conditions of type 5,4,4.
In 3D, the simulation does not converge and we observe side effect at North-West boundary with high current values disturbing the circulation (see figure 1).
We try to play with our boundary conditions (with/without Thompson, imposing nil-velocity at the North West boundary point…), but we always see this side effect. We, finally, impose a current velocity of 0.01m/s at the west boundary. This fix the problem and current circulation seems not so bad, even if we observe some strange circulation at bottom of very low velocity amplitude (see figure 2-3).
When temperature is turn on (a linear profile – 18°C at sea-surface and 13.5°C for water depth higher than 60m), a side effect is observed at South-West boundary amplitude (see figure 4).
I am pretty sure we are missing something and not sure we are in the right direction. Are the selected numerical parameters being the right ones? Is there any way to keep boundary at 544 and avoid this side effect?
Thanks for your attention & Best Regards
Alexandre C.
PS: I have taken the liberty of enclosing the parameters files for the cases with and without Temperature.
