TOPIC: Validation of floating structures implementation

Validation of floating structures implementation 5 years 9 months ago #32877

Hi there,

I would like to know if there are any validations (with in-situ measurements or laboratory experiments) of the implementation of floating structures in TELEMAC 3D model using the methology discussed in :

www.opentelemac.org/index.php/kunena/21-...er-tips?limitstart=0

Thank you !

Hi,

You can look at my paper "Modeling complex vertical structures with TELEMAC-3D" from the 2016 user conference. I included a small verification case. It is however not a proper validation.

I would be happy to propose a test case the EDF R&D to see if it can be implemented as an example. We would need to discuss the assumptions, litterature reference etc.

Kind regards
PL

Just an additional comment: there are better codes than TELEMAC for simulating such things due to theoretical and topological limitations.
Implementing such a feature in TELEMAC can be very helpful in some cases but one has to be aware of those limitations.

Hi pilou, thank you for your request,

I already saw your paper and i sent you an e-mail about that topic 1 year ago. Your comments were very helpful and I implemented floating docks in a marina model and I wrote a paper on that but i get some reviews about the validation of this kind of procedure in the literature.

And in your user conference article I may be wrong but i don't see in-situ observations or lab experiments that could validate the modeling implementation used in Telemac. In fact, i did a lot of research and i didn't find any other study at that regional/basin scale

On my side, we managed to get current velocities under a floating dock (inside a marina) and we get very good calibration that confirmed and validated our modeling results with this kind of implementation.

Anyway, If you have any other suggestions or comments about that topic i'm really interested.

Kind regards
Jean-Rémy
