Hi,
I have made a (3D)simulation using a domain having 1 open boundary with PRESCRIBED FLOWRATE supplied via LIQUID BOUNDARY FILE. The obtained 2D result file(3D RESULT FILE ALSO OBTAINED) contains SCALAR FLOWRATE along with velocities. When i tried to analyse the result, the SCALAR FLOWRATES along the open boundary were not exactly the same as what i had prescribed through the LIQUID BOUNDARY FILE. I would like to know why?
Thanks in advance
Sathya

The scalar flowrate or scalar discharge in the 2D results file is the local depth-averaged velocity (its norm actually) multiplied by the depth. Only by summing these values along the boundary, taking into account the element sizes, and provided that the velocity is normal to the boundary you would find the prescribed global flowrate on the boundary.
With best regards,
