It is a surface runoff model which aim to map flowpaths and areas prone to flooding caused by rainfall with various return periods. The DEM-model have a resolution of 1*1 m. I had a lower resolution in some less important parts of the model previosly but I would like to carry out a sensitivity analysis on the results based on different resolutions, hence the high resolution :)

OK I understand.
But in this case, is there a real interest to use density area?
Maybe you could use uniform mesh size (the finest one).
This will avoid the problem you encountered...
Nevertheless, the computation time for mesh generation will probably be huge!

Another option could be to use the STBTEL tool which allow you to split every triangle of a mesh into 4 triangles.
Then you could map your DEM on the new generated mesh...

In the latest development (not yet released so only available on the trunk), there is a new option for convergence studies where you could define a level of refinement of your mesh...)

Hope this helps
Christophe

I thought that the computation time would be the limit here but in that sense it's ok, the big problem is handling the large mesh and the large resultfiles since I need graphic outputs very often..

Thanks for all your great advice.

Hi All,

Turns out that I lied :-( Sorry.
There IS a hard limit of 10,000,000 nodes in the mesher that I forgot existed.

I added this limit 10 years ago when I was first developing the mesher so that Blue Kenue wouldn't crash when it ran out of virtual address space. (Remember that we were using 32 bit operating systems at the time)

Anyway, I've now changed this limit to 200,000,000 when we build Blue Kenue 64bit. (I suspect that a mesh of that size will not be practical for a while)

I'm afraid that's all I can do for the moment as it's up to NRC to release a new version. (Hopefully soon)

Cheers... Martin
