Multiframe ASCII cuurent file for Psed using BlueKenue. 7 years 10 months ago #24709

Hi,

I am trying to run Psed simulation with time varying currents.
I have flow fields from my TELEMAC-2D simulation and I can save these currents as binary multiframe .t3v files in BlueKenue.

However Psed requires the input files in ASCII format. I can't see a way to save multiframe ASCII current files in BlueKenue.

If I do this using an outside program like MatLab, how should be the format/layout of data inside a multiframe ASCII file?

Please help me with suggestions

Hi,

There is no specification for multiframe t3s/t3v files.

PSed expects the hydrodynamics input in the following formats.

1. bathymetry - always in an ASCII t3s file.
2. depth - in an ASCII or BINARY t3s file. Temporally varying data MUST be in a BINARY file.
3. currents - in an ASCII or BINARY t3v file. Temporally varying data MUST be in a BINARY file.

If you provide BINARY files to PSed via the BlueKenue interface the following keyword/value record is automatically generated in the PSed parameter (*.ssp) file.
HYDRODYNAMICS_FORMAT BINARY
(The default format is ASCII)

NOTE: Depth and currents MUST be in the same format and each file MUST have the same timestep and number of frames.

Hope this helps... Martin

Thanks.

I am able to run it. The issue was both Depth and Currents has to be time varying.

Off topic. Do you know the units of Mobility in Psed results? Is there way to get the concentration of parcels as outputs?

Hi again,

Mobility is a ratio of (shear stress of parcel / critical sheer stress)
See Section 5.2 in the PSed manual for an explanation.

Sediment concentration is a bit tricky to compute in PSed and there is code to do so in the model but we didn't expose it on the interface because it wasn't generalized. We tended to tweak the code depending on the circumstances we were modelling.

I'm attaching the PSed source code so you can try it out for yourself.

Cheers... Martin
