The BK version currently downloadable from the CHC website is 3.4.4.

However the grapevine says that we presently hover around version 3.6

Are newer BK installers distributed anywhere else, or are those proprietary developments?

BK installers are made publicly available on the NRC website, as you mentioned, yes. It seems to me that there is also a contact person listed on that page... have you tried touching base?

Hi back. I have poked the BK forum first as a convening point of well-informed folks.

If I may be discretely indiscreet, I would ask you if you run a version newer than 3.4.4 and where you have gotten it from.

I will use this information solely to support my case to the base that the newest version should be downloadable from the NRC website -- if that's their policy at all.

Otherwise I suppose that the answer from the base will be 'the newest version that you may download is the old one'. Which I know already.

Yes, I run a newer version that 3.4.4 because I built the newer installer. And I can do that because I am Martin's replacement here at NRC and have access to all of the source code...

And, yes, I can provide an answer here on this forum very easily, it only takes a few keystrokes, but I choose to follow my organization's rules as I understand them. This is why I directed you (and everyone else) to the contact person on the web page to find out more information. You may be surprised by the answer you find...

Speaking of hidden treasures, I've been wondering about the state of the python API for Bluekenue (pyEnsim was called?), In some posts I've heard Martin talk about it but couldn't track any more info about it.

Another good question to pose to the NRC contact person and try to convince them that it should be released publicly. However, up until this point, pyEnSim (python API to the underlying C++ code that is behind Blue Kenue) has only been used by internal NRC projects and hence only released to those organizations that were involved (i.e. paid) in those specific projects.

If asked, NRC will probably want to know something about funding to support it as NRC does not operate like, for example, a university but more like an RTO. Any thoughts in that direction?

I have written the following e-mail that other users may wish to use as a blueprint to ask for the distribution of a newer BK.

Dear Mr Whoever is in charge,

Blue Kenue is a valued piece of software freely distributed by the NRC-CNRC for its reliability and ability to integrate meshing and modelling task for different flow solvers. The software version currently available from your website is 3.4.4 and is a few years old.

I happened to hear from other fellow modellers and developers that, in this meantime, newer versions have been developed at NRC-CNRC. I trust that it would be beneficial for the whole users' community to have access to new features on the same terms as the older version.

Therefore, I would like to ask you whether it would be possible to distribute a more recent, stable version of Blue Kenue to the general public. I would be, of course, interested in getting hold of a copy.

Incidentally, can newer version of BK deal with slf files written in double precision? Version 3.4.4 cannot.

BlueKenue_3.8.4-beta+20170120 is rumoured to be able to load double precision, yes...

I am happy to see that within one week we moved from version 3.6 to version 3.8. I will rejoice on the top of this when version 3.4 will also be superseded in the download page.

Since you are nearer to the contact person that anyone of us, would you mind announcing the good news on the forum as soon as the new BK installer is available for download?
