Hi everybody,

Is there a "maximum size" for a Selafin file to open it with BlueKenue? I have a file of about 4Go and I don't succeed in opening it with Blue Kenue.

Regards,

Olivier

Hi Olivier

Which version of BK did you use?
32 of 64 bits?

I just made a test on my computer with version 3.9.2_beta
With a file of 7,5 Go it works
Nevertheless, this is not a guarantee because in my case the size of the model is quite reasonable but I have 14 variables in my result and 3 days of simulation each 5 minutes...
If your model is large in term of node/element, this could be a memory problem...
Regards
Christophe

Hello Olivier,

Where I work we open almost anything in BlueKenue (as long as we have available memory).

The biggest file I opened is a T3D results file with 100000 nodes in 15 layers, with 16 variables along 730 timesteps (~70 GB). It opens quite well. Actually, BlueKenue does some magic there, because I only have 16 GB of RAM.

I also opened a TOMAWAC results file in a mesh of 500000 nodes with 8 variables. The file size is quite small, but because of the large amount of nodes displayed at the same time, the animation gets really slow, but I think that's a limitation of the graphics card.

P.S.: Using BlueKenue 3.3.4 x64.

Best Regards,

Phelype

Hello,

Bigger models will require more RAM. Our ("coarse") model of the Earth has a geometry with 60 Millions elements - a file size of 1.1Gb - the result files are obviously much larger. In the case of tsunami applications, we made the following animation with Blue Kenue (using a fly-by in the spherical view):

The Earth by TELEMAC

Note: Blue Kenue loads in memory only one frame at a time - so as long as you can load that, you should be fine even with very very large multi-frame files.

Hope this helps,

Sébastien.

Very interesting thread!

I'd never seen that animation before thanks for sharing!

By the way... it is hard for me to tell the animation was created by Blue Kenue. Is there something in the description that explains this or a website somewhere? I must have missed it in my excitement of watching the animation ;) Very cool

Kindly,
Alan

Hello Alan,

Indeed we did not name Blue Kenue as the focus was on TELEMAC, nor did we name where we took the green earth and the blue bathymetry. Because this animation was part of a twit / linkedin post by HR Wallingford, our message had to be very short.

We have another animation coming for tide prediction (comparing TELEMAC computed tides from gravitational forces against satellite observations of tides re-synthesized based on TPXO). I will try to insert "Blue Kenue" somewhere, but no guarantees.

Since you are in Ottawa, note that I will be presenting the Earth by TELEMAC in Montreal at the 14th U.S. National Congress on Computational Mechanics (USNCCM14) - you can check out the news items on this site. Maybe I can see some of our North American colleagues there ?

Once this presentation is done, we will put out more details on how easy it is to do these.

Sébastien.

Hello Alan and community,

As promised here is a link to a new post / animation.
- Current application: global tides
- One of the advantages: we also predict currents (something TPXO does not have)

The Earth by TELEMAC

This time, I managed to get Blue Kenue mentioned - with its link, if you follow to the utube channel.

Enjoy,

Best regards,
Sébastien

Hi Sebastien,

Nicely done!
Will you also be publishing an animation with currents?

Cheers... Martin

PS you mention that the viz is a challenge. Is there anything
we could do to help? Could you make the mesh available to me
to see if I can do anything to improve things? (Confidentially
of course)
