POSM: How to simulate oil spill with time series hydrodynamic data? 6 years 8 months ago #29210

Hello,

I saved my telemac2d hydrodynamic result data as the 2D T3 Vector Mesh(ASCII SingleFrame).
And my oil model run well with the ASCII hydrodynamic files.

Then I save my telemac2d hydrodynamic result data as the 2D T3 Vector Mesh(BINARY MultiFrame).
But the oil model was cashed while opening the time series hydrodynamic files.

How to simulate oil spill with time series hydrodynamic data?

Best regards

Hi He Jiawei,

Unfortunately, the current version of Blue Kenue does not support multi-frame hydrodynamics in POSM (although it should not crash - it should just run with the first frame of your multiframe hydrodynamics input).

We (the National Research Council Canada) are exploring possibilities to further develop POSM with partners (to include multiframe inputs for wind and hydrodynamics) - but there are currently no funds allocated and therefore no fixed time frame for completing this work.

Best regards,

Hi Enda

I could understand the problem of finding funds to develop new capabilities in POSM but in my opinion, we're not in this case.

The related problem should be seen as a bug!

In the OilSimReport manual, we could find that POSM accept spatial and temporal inputs for wind and hydrodynamics. And in the simulation example, the result of "continuous spill in a tidal estuary" is presented. Such case have a spatial and temporal hydrodynamic inputs...
So the question is: how could you run such example is the current version does not support this feature?

Kind regards
Christophe

Hi Christophe,

It may very well be considered/viewed as a bug! Unfortunately, bugs also require some time to fix. I am not aware of the history of POSM's development and why multi-frame inputs are not possible in the current version. As you say, the manual does reference this feature, so I suspect the issue could be resolved with a week or two of effort.

Hi He Jiawei

I'm afraid not. As I mentioned in an earlier post, there are currently no funds allocated or fixed timeframe to address this issue/bug.
