Regular Grid - Displayed Resolution vs. Real Resolution Problem 5 years 4 months ago #33950

Dear all,

I'm currently working on a Project for which I've created a 20x20m regular grid with 700x725 nodes.

Despite the intended 20x20m resolution, Bluekenue insists in only displaying half of the nodes (40x40).

Looking at the .r2s file I confirmed that the grid is in fact 20x20, however, Bluekenue always displays it as 40x40m.

I can map things onto the grid and, upon checking the .r2s file, I verify that the mapping was done correctly even for nodes that are not being displayed.

However, only being able to see half of the nodes makes it difficult to modify the grid (making modifications to bathymetry becomes quite challenging).

Things I've tried without success:

- Reduce the size of the mesh (I thought that maybe the problem was that the grid was too large);
- Updated graphics drivers;
- Installed to latest alpha version of Bluekenue (reverted back to stable release);
- Change monitor resolution from 4k to 1080p;
- Changed window's compatibility settings.

Hope this problem was not discussed previously on the forum (I couldn't find a similar post).

Your support is much appreciated.

Regards,
Francisco

Do you see something similar to the following screen snapshot?

Looking at the source code I can see that for large grids then there is a "display step". Meaning that not all grid points will be displayed.
Set the display step if the grid is larger than 600x600. This is the "comfortable" limit on a 733 PIII with GeForce256 graphics. We'll get rid of this when everyone has a 20 GHz PVII with a GeForce 10 video card.

Looks like it is time to revisit this code!

Well... I spoke a little too soon. Just change the grid step value in the display settings. It is initialized to 2 in your case; so just reduce it down to 1.

I've added a new message when initializing the grid to try and help avoid confusion in the future... it looks like the following screen snapshot and will appear in the next Blue Kenue released after today (9 July 2019)

*facepalm* how could I have missed that.... I feel really dumb right now.

That was obviously the problem, I just didn't realize that it would automatically set the grid step to 2.

Thank you very much for your support!
