Hello,

I want to refine an existing mesh in an area of interest with the Bluekenue software. I have the geometry in a 'selafin' file, I don't have the project in BK.

I've already done the tutorial for the mesher in BK (www.academia.edu/34426945/Tutorial_Manua...nue_Table_of_Content), where in chapter 3.4 a refinement is done. But I can't apply it to my case, because I only have the bottom geometry in the (*.slf) format, so I can't follow the same procedure.

I’ve also read that if a don’t have the (*t3m) file I could (I copy-paste the procedure):

1) First cut a hole in the mesh by defining a polygon
and using "Edit->T3 Mesh->Delete Elements in Polygon",
2) Create the outline of the hole by:
- selecting the mesh in the WorkSpace and using
"Tools->T3 Mesh->Extract Edges (Shorelines),
3) Select and copy the "shoreline" of the hole,
- and paste this shoreline to the "Outline" of a new
Mesh Generator object,
4) Define your contraints in the usual manner but make
sure that the "Resample Outline" option is turned off,
5) Once you have created the new "submesh",
- select your original mesh with the hole and use
"Edit->T3 Mesh->Merge Mesh...".

But I’m stuck after i try to create the “new mesh”. I select the mesh with the hole and I’ve tried to merge it but it’s says “No triangular Mesh objects available for selections”.

Could someone please clarify this for me? It's not difficult what I want to do but it’s not very intuitive to me this procedure.

Thank you very much,

Luca

Hi

As I can see, you didn't follow strictly the indications of the tutorial

Message in image 2 indicate you probably didn't select the shoreline of the hole

In image 1 we could see you didn't generate the local submesh as it doesn't appear as a result of the mesh generator...

Hope this helps
Christophe

Hi, thanks for your reply.

In deed, the problem from the image 2 was do to fact that when I've created the 'Shorelines', this was composed of two polygons, the outer-lines of the mesh and the polygon from the area of interest. After deleting the first, I've managed to drag the 'shorelines' in the 'Outline' of the new mesh.

In the image 3 we have the dialog box, where the "Resample Outline" option is turned off and the 'Default Edge Lenght' is equal to 0,1m.

However, I can't solve the problem of image 1, where I have to generate the local submersh in the mesh generator.

How do I create the 'subMesh' ?

So I can follow the step 5).
5) Once you have created the new "submesh",
- select your original mesh with the hole and use
"Edit->T3 Mesh->Merge Mesh...".

In the image 3 we see that the child (SubMeshes) of the the new mesh 'newT3Mesh' doesn't appear on.

From where the mesh generator gets the bottom information ?
What should I drag into the 'subMesh' ?

If I try to merge I get an error (image 4).

Thank you for the feedback

Luca

Hi Luca

If no mesh exsist non can be inserted as a sub mesh.
I believe you need to create the 'submesh' as you would a 'normal' mesh using the outline of the hole in the large mesh. The new mesh can then be merged with the large mesh.

Hope that helps,
Patrick

Hi,

I am modifying an area from an existing geometry of a selafin mesh. Once my new area is meshed, I assign the corresponding topography (BOTTOM) with 2D Interpolator.

Then, I merge the old clipped mesh with the new mesh corresponding to the clipped area.

Everything works correctly except that the topography assigned to the new area becomes negative after using the "Merge Mesh" tool. (example: +30.12 m NGF becomes -30.12 m NGF). The topography of the rest of the mesh does not change and remains positive. This only concerns the new grid area.

Has anyone experienced this problem?

Thank you for the feedback,

Corentin

Which version of Blue Kenue are you using?
- The released version is 3.3.4 and the most recent development version is 3.12.4-alpha.

If you pass me your files (the starting files and the right before the last step) then I can have a quick peek to see if there is anything odd going on in Blue Kenue.

Kindly,
Alan

Hi Alan,

I don't know which version I'm using but it dates from September 2011. Unfortunately I can't upload the files here for confidentiality reasons.

Best regards,
Corentin

Help > About... gets you the version information. I suspect it is 3.3.4 or there abouts since you mentioned 2011.

I don't need your confidential files. However, I'd need you to create a simple and reproducible example that demonstrates the issue that you have observed. And also demonstrate that it is not working in the most recent version 3.12.4-alpha. After you've done that little bit of homework  then I can step in to see what I can see; and attempt to fix whatever might be broken.

Kindly... and good luck!
Alan
