Can BlueKenue extract the left bank line, centerline, right bank line? 11 years 1 week ago #10991

Hi, everyone,

I have already interpolated my survey data to my dem, then after interpolation, then left bank line and the right bank line has shifted a little compared the original bank lines.then I want to get the new left bank line and right bank line automatically in BlueKenue because I want to plot the profile of them. can BK do this?

the attached file is the profile by using the original left bank line to plot.I think if BK can automatically extract the river bank lines automatically, the profile will look not so jagged, should be smoothly.

Any help will be appreciated!

Hi
If you use the channel mesher, after generating the channel mesh, each line has it's own value, so you could extract an isoline just by giving the number of the line you want.

Hope this helps

Dear C.coulet,

Thank you for your quick reply.

The bank line is from the upstream to downstream, so the profile should be from the high elevation to low elevation, I don't think it should be an isoline, it should be a line along the river.

The attached file may help me to make my questions more clearly.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Yajuan,

What is your definition of the banks (mathematically)?

Dear Martin,

I don't know how to define the banks of a river, but I remember ArcGIS can extract the bank lines of a river from DEM data automatically, so I think whether BK can do this better after I get the DEM interpolation results. if not, I can modify my left and right bank manually to plot the profiles of them.

Thank you very much!

Hi Yajuan,

I don't know what ArcGIS does but Blue Kenue is not a GIS system so perhaps you should use ArcGIS for this task.

Cheers... Martin
