Hello,

I was trying to post-process the result file after parallel run with Blue Kenue. It creates the follwong error message:

This appears to bea byte swapped file.
While reading element data.
ERROR: Unknown or Invalid file format
While reading 2d mesh geometry
ERROR: Unknown or Invalid file format

Any explanation for that?
Thanks for responding.

regards

Hello,

No idea. "Byte swapped file" refers to the 2 IEEE formats: big_endian or little_endian, but Blue Kenue normally is able to deal with both (one is native on Windows and the other on Linux). What is the size of the file ? Maybe you could try a scalar run to see if it works, in case it is not a parallelism problem.

With best regards,

I am also getting a similar error message when trying to view the results of a 3D run in serial:

This appears to be a byte swapped file.
3D Grid Geometry:
748600 Nodes, 1335708 Elements, 10 Layers
Scanning Variable: ELEVATION Z
"ERROR: while loading first frame."
ERROR: while rewinding file:

I'm working on a Windows machine and am saving my geometry object as Big Endian (little Endian did not work at all)...perhaps there is a common problem?

Turns out my problem is an inconsistency with my graphics printout interval...rookie mistake :/

Hello,

OK, and it would be good if you can explain what is the inconsistency in case we can check it before the run and stop it with a clear message, since it looks like we can build a wrong result file without noticing.

Thanks for the response. My graphics print out period was longer than my actual run...like I said, rookie mistake. But like you said, JMH, a simple check and stop with message would have brought it to my attention much earlier.

I don't mean to hijack this post, by the way! The originally posted issue may be something completely different.

Cheers,
Ben

Shan,

The first message is informational indicating the endian-ness of the file. Blue Kenue automatically detects this and proceeds appropriately.

The second message is the key.

While reading element data.
ERROR: Unknown or Invalid file format

Means that there was no element/geometry information to read in the file.
Perhaps I should have had the error message say "Premature end-of-file".

This probably means the Telemac run finished or crashed without writing any results.

Cheers... Martin
