TOPIC: Pier shape as Hard Lines (T3-Mesh) lead to bad mesh generation

Pier shape as Hard Lines (T3-Mesh) lead to bad mesh generation 8 years 6 months ago #21039

Dear All,
I want to implement bridge piers in the geometry of my mesh. Therefore, I imported polylines as shape file into BlueKenue and copied them into a closed line item (resampled with 0.5 m maximum distance). When I add this closed line item in the T3 Mesher as "Hard Lines" the generated mesh look completely wrong as shown on the following screenshots.

When I remove the closed line item from the T3 Mesh generator, the mesh looks is generated well. What do I do wrong?

Best Regards
Heidi

Hi Heidi,

Please post the t3m file here so I can diagnose the problem.

Cheers... Martin

Hi Heidi,

Your problems are caused by a bug that we fixed some time ago.
I will send you a private message with links to the new version
of Blue Kenue.

Cheers... Martin

Notes:

1. You are defining a very fine mesh around your bridge piers.
(sub meter) so you will have to shift your domain (-800000, -1600000)
so that the nodes will resolve properly in a single precision Selafin file. Unfortunately Blue Kenue doesn't yet support double precision
files.

2. The transition of edge lengths between the bridge pilings and
the bank break-lines at both bridge ends is too steep resulting in
some awkward elements. I suggest you allow for a smoother gradation.

Dear Martin

I have same problem while meshing small sand banks in Bay of Biscay.
Could-you give me a link to the corrected versions mentionned above ?

Thank you
Camille

Hello, I am facing the same problem for mesh generation in some areas of a concrete structure. These areas represent gate gains and are very small notches in the walls. Please see pictures attached.

Hi
did you try to shift your model to a local coordinate system?
It seems also that your criteria is too large for such structures...

Maybe you could zip the t3m files and join it here in order to let us try...

Regards
Christophe

Thank you for your answers. I'm still digging to find out a solution to my mesh problem. Also, note that the simulation returns this error (probably because of the mesh ?): |Program received signal SIGSEGV: Segmentation fault - invalid memory reference

Meanwhile, please find attached my model if you want to take a look and see if there is any mistake that could be the reason of this.

Thank you for your help. :)
