Hello,

I'm using v8p4r0 and I have the same problem. I want to include a flow rate at the border of an island, but only on a given layer. My 3d model currently has 10 layers and I'd like to inject flow only at the surface (on the first two layers, for example). In my .cas file, I specified VELOCITY VERTICAl PROFILES = 1;1;0 since my island correspond to my third liquid boundary.
Associated with this I have a liquid boundaries file to specify flow variations at my liquid boundaries.
Attached is the vel_prof_z fortran file that I've modified with the information I've read in this discussion, and the .cas file.

File Attachment:

File Name: vel_prof_z.f
File Size: 4 KB

File Attachment:

File Name: t3d_canal_ile_profil.cas
File Size: 2 KB

However, it doesn't work...I'm a beginner and have probably done things wrong...

Thanks for your help

Sounds a mpi problem then you should run in sequential mode

in the v8p4 user manuel, it is said that we have to modify user_vel_prof_z.
Here my user_vel prof_z :

File Attachment:

File Name: user_vel_prof_z.f
File Size: 2 KB

In sequential mode I have this error message :

THE LIQUID BOUNDARIES FILE CONTAINS
25 LINES WITH:
Q(1) Q(2) Q(3)
USER DEFINE PROFILE MISSING IN USER_VEL_PROF_Z
PLANTE: PROGRAM STOPPED AFTER AN ERROR
RETURNING EXIT CODE: 2

I don't know how to modify this user_vel_prof_z...

When you modify user_vel_prof_z.f, you should remove the existing part WRITE, CALL PLANTE and STOP which are here just to inform user he should modify this subroutine.

Hello,

I'm using v8p2r1 and I would like to simulate a river intake using a source point, as I can't add an island to the model I'm using.

Is it enough to set WATER DISCHARGE OF SOURCES to "-1" in the steering file and a negative flow value in the source file? Also, can the source point be placed anywhere in the river?

Thanks
Mathilde

Hello Mathilde,

First, please use the latest release as assistance is only given for this one. Currently, it is release v8p5r0.

As written in the TELEMAC-3D user manual, you also need to give the location of the sources at least. You have 2 methods explained in the manual.
You cannot put a source point on a boundary (lateral, bottom or free surface), otherwise it is OK.

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry I didn't explain my question properly. I have already simulated a water discharge in my model with a source point. I would like to know how to proceed for a water intake. In particular is it enough to set WATER DISCHARGE OF SOURCES to "-1" in the steering file and a negative flow value in the source file.
This is how the end of my steering file is written:

/
/ SOURCES
/
SOURCES FILE = 'water_intake.txt'
ABSCISSAE OF SOURCES = 421127
ORDINATES OF SOURCES = 6427258
ELEVATIONS OF SOURCES = 4. / tj en surface
WATER DISCHARGE OF SOURCES = -1.
VELOCITIES OF THE SOURCES ALONG X = 0.
VELOCITIES OF THE SOURCES ALONG Y = 0.
VELOCITIES OF THE SOURCES ALONG Z = 0.
VALUE OF THE TRACERS AT THE SOURCES = 1.;1.;1.;1.;1.;1.;1.

Thanks
Mathilde
