Hey, I want to check if the "internode spacing" is the " mean segment distance" after I open the properties windows of my .shp file in BlueKenue?

Thank you!

Your .shp file contains an outline, right?

That outline is a line in a line set object.

Your outline is closed... making it a closed line (i.e. a polygon).

A closed line is composed of segments of different lengths.

Therefore, the average (or mean) of all of those lengths is the "mean segment distance".

Whereas, the "internode spacing" is related to nodes in a mesh and not to the lengths of line segments in a line. However, the 2 concepts are related and you'll have to understand both of them in order see whats going on...

Kindly... Alan

PS It's better (for you) if you take the time to learn the concepts because then you'll have a deeper understanding of what's going on and what Martin is suggesting you do.

Also; a hint...
  • Load a T3 Mesh into the WorkSpace
  • View > T3 Mesh Toolbar
  • Click on your mesh to select it
  • Click on "Analyse Mesh" to get a popup dialog box with information about the selected mesh

Kindly... Alan

Thank you so much! I learn much more from your instructions about BlueKenue.

But I have one question, after loading, viewing and selecting my .shp file. The Analyze Mesh button in the T3 Toolbar is grey and not selectable?

The grey box (on the left side in the WorkSpace) tells me that you have selected "Newoutline". That object is a Line Set, right? You can't analyse a mesh unless you have a mesh selected, right?

Hey, I first tried to half the inter node space from 1m to 0.5m, then the mesh generation time is super long. So I tried to trim the small islands, but I'm a bit bit confused about the standards, like which nodes of which part should be deleted ?

If I understand correctly, your goal has changed from the original post in this thread.

Your goal is to now to create a high quality mesh for your study area, right?

Perhaps if you list all of the things you know and all of the things you've tried then a modeller might help you fill the gaps and help you achieve your goal. But the first part is your homework; to carefully lay out what was done and what you understand so far. And what you think might be the problems that you're encountering.

Also, I'd suggest creating a new thread (with a nice subject closely aligned with your objective) rather than keep posting in this thread. That way, you may increase the likelihood that modellers (and others) will help you.

Kindly... Alan

PS Also sharing your t3m file may help people help you... but don't expect people to do your research for you...

Hey, thank you for your advice!

Before I wrote the last message, I have resampled old .shp file in QGIS in 2 ways as suggested:
4. Half the internode(from 1m to 0.5m), then the computation time is long and BlukeKenue shut down automatically when I tried to create a new mesh.
2. Trim nodes, I have tried to delete the nodes on some edges , created mesh ,.slf file and .cli file but still got the same error notification as the same before.

So I want to know which kind of nodes need to be trimed to create a proper mesh for BlueKenue?

Thank you!

Some things to note:
  1. You can use Blue Kenue to resample an outline if you wish
  2. Do you understand what a density object allows you to accomplish with respect to BOTH resampling an outline AND creating a mesh? See post #46029 for some inspiration

If Blue Kenue shut down while you were doing something then please pass me the steps that you did AND the data that you used. Then I can try to reproduce the fault and improve Blue Kenue.

Thank you for the hints.

After checking the post, I need to change the default MAXIMUM node amount when running mesh, it's too low.

And I will also try to use the resample tool in BlueKenue. But I have a new question, I have 2 types of outlines: lake and island. I have used all outlines of islands as" Hardlines", and Lake as "Outline" when running mesh. Do I need to apply the resample function to all these Hardlines and the lake outline? And I looked up the resample function in tutorial, it is applied in a channel mesh with the Equal Distance Method. Now I'm trying to create a T3 mesh, could you also give me some hints about which method and delta value I should select?

Thank you!
