Strange as it should look for libmetis.a and not libmetis.so...

I found something else interesting. When I type into the terminal
echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
just to see where shared libraries are being loaded from, I get this back:
/home/ryan/Applications/telemac-mascaret/v8p0r0/builds/gfortranHPC/wrap_api/lib:

Shouldn't this environment variable be pointing towards where the lib files for METIS are as well?

You're right
As this is linked to api, I'm not fully sure but it make sense.

I just noticed you're not using the latest release of v8p0 as the r2 version exists...
Don't know what changed but this is also something to investigate...

I just did an export command that pointed the environment variable in question to the location of libmetis.so and it worked. I ran the example and I got "My work is done" at the end of it all. I'll try the most up to date version of it, but this fix should let me work with telemac-mascaret on my machine.

You need to uncomment the last line of you pysource file:
#export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$METISHOME/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
