I am completely new to 6p2, Python (version 2.7.3) and G95 or Gfortran, and was trying to install telemac on a 64bit machine with Windows7.

I tried to compile the system (ubugfortran_6.2.tar, with G95), but it was
very very slow (1.5 hours), similar to what Mathieu found (#6311) a few months ago. The compilation finally stopped while trying to create telemac3D.exe. I have attached the screen dump printed during the compilation. Obviously there is something wrong with G95, or with my systel.cfg file (see attached).

So I tried Gfortran. There is no recommended site on the Opentelemac installation instructions for Gfortran. I have downloaded a binary version from a site called “equation.com”, and tried to compile telemac (wingfortran_6.2.tar). This one went much faster than G95, but it gave me errors (see the screen dump) “architecture of input file `
declarations_telemac2d.o' is incompatible with i386:x86-64 output”

I did read many of the comments on the forum, and I am still not sure how to compile telemac

So, my question is, what am I doing wrong?,should I continue to use G95 and try to make it work, or should I use Gfortran? What should the ideal systel.cfg file be ?

If Gfortran is the way to go, could somebody recommend a site for downloading a proper version good for Windows7, 64 bits?

Thank you for any help you could give me.

Thierry

Hello Thierry,

For both your g95 and gfortran compilation, have a look at this: #6066
and specifically the use of --start-group <libs> --end-group

Note that you should use gfortran (not g95) and the versions that you have downloaded should be fine.

For the error you get on the gfortran side, it looks like gfortran was not installed properly. Try having only gfortran in your path, and not g95 or any other at the same time.

Hope this helps,
Sébastien.

Thank you Sébastien

It reassures me that the gfortran I have downloaded is one I could use.

I will look into what you suggested.
Merci
Thierry
