Regional source input

Hi,

I have recently encountered an issue regarding the addition of a regional tracer input over a sea surface, and the tracer values change with both time and location.

Given the great number of grid cells in my model and the input area is pretty large, so using the MAXIMUM NUMBER OF SOURCES approach from the user manual just isn’t realistic—I need to define thousands or even tens of thousands of source points.

Is there any way I could just interpolate my source data set directly onto the computational domain instead?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello,

With standard TELEMAC-3D, to my knowledge, the answer is no.

Anyway, if you have implementation skills, you can try to define what is needed, e.g. use INPOLY to determine in which 2D polygon x and y of your punctual sources are to be treated with associated flowrates etc.

Hope this helps,

Hello, thank you very much for your suggestions.

Yes, I am considering using the approach you mentioned, processing the regional source input externally.

Could you please be more specific which subroutine I should modify? Is it the subroutine related to source terms? I look forward to your reply.

Hello [name removed],

I would say (at least) telemac3d.F and telemac3d_init.F. Perhaps TRISOU and SOURCE as well.

You can search when NPTSCE (number of punctual sources) is used in 3D and add the regional treatment.

You can also have a look at the sources defined by regions feature in TELEMAC-2D (search for T2DSDN and/or XCOO, PTS_REG, AREA_P, TNP and PT_IN_POLY variables).

Hope this helps,
