Hello,
I am attempting to couple the WAQTEL thermal module to my model, but I have only managed to add one tracer (temperature), whereas I need two (temperature and salinity).
First, I would like to know if it is possible to use WAQTEL with two tracers.
Second, what would be the appropriate approach to achieve this? I have attached the files I have been using here. It is worth noting that, in order to get that single tracer to work, I had to modify the .cli file and add a prescribed tracer value. I tried adding a couple of additional columns for the salinity tracer, but it did not work.
TIA

Hello,
If you want to add tracers not alread taken into account by WAQTEL like salinity, you have to declare it in the TELEMAC (2D or 3D) steering file by filling the keyword NAMES OF TRACERS with SALINITY name (first 16 characters for the name of the tracers, last 16 characters with the unit).
e.g.
NAMES OF TRACERS : ‘TEMPERATURE DEGREE C’;‘SALINITY G/L’
The BOUNDARY CONDITIONS FILE follows specific rules, please read the TELEMAC (2D or 3D) user manual.
The same value for every tracer is to be written in the 8th column. If you want to use different values for the type of boundary conditions of tracers, you can do it by modifying user_limi3d.f (see what is done by default in limi3d.f).
Hope this helps,

Hi [name removed],
Thank you for your response. I can now use the thermal module with two tracers, but only with ATMOSPHERE-WATER EXCHANGE MODEL = 1. I need to use ATMOSPHERE-WATER EXCHANGE MODEL = 2 because evaporation is significant. Is this possible considering I have tidal flats? I saw in some older posts that it wasn’t possible, but I couldn’t find any recent specific information in the WAQTEL manual for Telemac v8p5r0.
Thank you
Hello,
Unfortunetaly, nothing new for the combo ATMOSPHERE-WATER EXCHANGE MODEL = 2 + tidal flats.
I assume your evaporation varies over time?
If not, you can try ATMOSPHERE-WATER EXCHANGE MODEL = 1 + RAIN OR EVAPORATION = YES + RAIN OR EVAPORATION IN MM PER DAY
If yes, you can try ATMOSPHERE-WATER EXCHANGE MODEL = 1 + RAIN OR EVAPORATION = YES + use of atmospheric data file (ASCII or binary).
Hope this helps,
