Dear Forum,

Recently in our company openTelemac has gained a lot of traction due to the outstanding results, flexibility and overall workflow.Essentially, the evangelizing process of the past months has succeeded!.

That's why the amount of questions has risen significantly which most of them I've answered according to the experienced I've had so far. But some that I couldn't (related to the benchmark-compilation topic) are:
  • Is there any benchmark case to "validate" the performance of our current machines? (HP-Z640 x2 + HP z420 workstations) and compare them to other users here in the forum?
  • besides the current CFG files shipped with telemac,is there any user-populated database of working and tested CFG files?
  • Is it worth to buy a Intel fortran + IMPI license?
  • Is there any how-to about setting a custom small cluster using telemac in "office-type" PC's that showcase some results and performance gains?

Internally, I'm willing to dedicate even more time to document as much as I can all the findings and make some Beginners FAQ and HOW-TO's (I've elaborated some really basic ones in Spanish already) about modelling with openTelemac as a complement to our learning process and this (benchmarking, "cluster setups" and compiling tricks) definitely should be included in that goal.

Thank you in advance!.

Regards,

José Diaz.

Hi
As you could see in the benchmark section, users often use the malpasset large test case to benchmark the installation.
So you could also do the same test and report your results.
About the CFG files, we deliver some examples but we don't want to offer to much different configuration with different level of tuning because this will create a huge amount of questions about such or such options and this is not the purpose. Moreover, each tuning option will give different results according to the characteristics of each computer...
About Intel Fortran and IMPI, it's a personal and financial choice... We deliver a fully free solution but if you prefer using Intel you could. Results seems to be a little bit better with Intel.
Finally I advise you to have a look on the Linux Live Cluster solution created by Uwe Merkel. You will find some interesting results on small cluster solutions

Regards
Christophe
