Dear Telemac Users,

First I want to thank you for helping with my previous installation problems.

I am currently using the tracer propagation of telemac2D to model vegetation growth.

I was wondering whether it is possible to decouple the tracer propagation from the hydrodynamics, e.g. compute/update the tracer only every 10th hyrdodynamic time-step, since it is not necessary to update it at every time step??

Best Regards,
Christina

Hello Christian,

The answer is no, unfortunately. At least it could not be done without a lot of theory and programming. The reason is that we need a strict compatibility between the continuity equation (hence hydrodynamics) and the non conservative tracer equation, in order to get mass conservation and monotony. For example we would need to integrate the fluxes at boundaries so that the correct quantities of tracer are entered. This is why we gave up with water quality and/or sediment treated as post processing of hydrodynamics. To be fully correct it would need to save every time step.

With best regards,

Dear Jean-Michel,

Thank you for your fast reply and your explanation.

I will try to find a work around solution.

Best Regards,
Christian
