How can I run a 2d model in which the initial conditions is zero depth 7 years 2 months ago #27798

Hi, all
I am trying to run a 2d model that the inlet boundary is a steady discharge and the outlet uses rating curve. I wish to run the model with the initial conditions of zero depth that initializes the water depths to 0.
I defined the boundaries in Bluekenue that the inlet is prescribed Q while the outlet is prescribed Q and H. However, there's got some problem as shown:
*****************************************************
ITERATION 1 TIME: 1.0000 S
DEBIMP: PROBLEM ON BOUNDARY NUMBER 2
GIVE A VELOCITY PROFILE
IN THE BOUNDARY CONDITIONS FILE
OR CHECK THE WATER DEPTHS.
OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSE:
SUPERCRITICAL ENTRY WITH FREE DEPTH
IN THIS CASE GIVE A POSITIVE DEPTH
IN THE INITIAL CONDITIONS
OR PRESCRIBE THE DEPTH AT THE ENTRANCE.
*******************************************************
I am confused that weather I have given a correct boundaries conditions.
Thanks all.

Hi
This kind of problem has been discussed many times in the forum so please take time to look on the previous topic before posting.
On inlet, imposing Q is only possible if the water level is positive otherwise one information is missing for the computation (the water level coming from downstream).
The only exception is if the flow regime is torrential and then you should impose Q and H.
So you should find a solution to put some water at inlet

Christophe

Thanks. I am reading previous topic to learn more about how to deal with the initial and boundary conditions.
I put some water at inlet by defining initial water level in Fudaa. Now the model results in a right way.
