hi everyone,

i had run my local model of tidal inlet of kuala pahang. with only one open boundary set for coastal hydrodynamics. using tpxo data. the direction of tidal current seems ok but the results values showed the velocity is too small, and i know this result's totally wrong.

my question are:
1. it is my mesh too small and it effected to the analysis? or my mesh not smooth enough?

2. for the initial elevation, i had -1.0 in my .cas file based on the bottom data which is varies from -1.5 to -19.5. can anyone explain about initial elevation in the telemac? and how to get the correct initial elevation?

3.base on my reading in the forum of topic ''how to define the friction coefficient varies in space', it said we can carry out the selafin file of the friction coefficient in blue kenue. may i know how to get the friction coefficient(f) data before we interpolated it in QGIS to get the shapefile of .xyz for friction? here i used 0.005 (i had go through with some reading it said in between 0.0025 to 0.005. i had already tried 0.0025 but the velocity direction only came at some points (which is totally wrong).

here with attach my work and results files.can someone check my file?

i'm really appreciate all helps and opinions for this matter.

regards

sorry.. the results file is to big

also for the geometry file. i have velocity but the arrow is to small (which the value to small).

any suggestion about this?

Hello Shahirah,

Your model looks really nice with a well built mesh.
I will try to answer to some of your inquiries:
1- Your initial condition of -1m looks not the smartest. For coastal and estuarian models you can use also TPXO database to establish a physical initial condition. To do that you have to set 'INITIAL CONDITIONS=TPXO SATELLITE ALTIMETRY'
2- to define friction variable in space it is very easy with BlueKenue: you need to define zones with closed lines for which you affect the value of the friction coefficient and then use Tools ->map objects. You can also use subroutine strche.f (sources/telemac2d) in order to set these coeffcients.
3- Your issues could be also just a matter of calibration, in addition to friction, you can calibrate the tide using the dedicated keywords (see user manual).

I hope this helps

with my kind regards

Riadh
