Dear all,

I am conducting hydrodynamic modeling usig Telemac-2d, however the results are unreasonable. The measured data is proving that there must be no water on floodplain but in my Telemac-2d simulation I am getting water on floodplain. In order to avoid numerical pump, I have considered some nodes near top of the bank for the whole domain but the problem was not solved.
I have attached the steering file to this message for more information.
I wonder if someone has an idea about the problem.
Thank you very much.

Hi
Maybe this is what we call the calibration step of a model...
Are you sure the water level in the river is under the level of the banks on all time step of the simulation?
What is the variable you presented in your image? The water height? What is the color ramp? How is the flow?
There is a lot of possibilities to explain this kind of problem...
About you steering file, why did you choose 1m for the receding procedure, this sounds me a huge value.

Regards
Christophe

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply.
I am sure the water level in the river is under the level of the banks on all time step of the simulation because the measured data shows there is no over flowing water during flood simulation. On the other hand, the results of other software (Hydro_AS) is showing there would be no water on floodplains. The image is representing water depth which is quit high. Initially I chose 1 cm for the receding procedure but I increased that to 10 cm and finally 1 m to make sure that this is not causing problem.

On the measurement side, OK there is no water but in your simulation?
Did you look the water elevation along the river?
Did you calibrate the friction to obtain the right result?

Yes, not on the measurement side, but in my simulation. I did not calibrated the model yet but I am using the same values used in another software which is providing quit good results. On the other hand, I do not think that changing the roughness value can prevent the problem because the water surface on floodplain is quit high. Do you think it has a great impact on the final result?
I will try to see.

We don't have any idea of your model, results and simulation.
It's hard to have an idea where the problem comes from...
Looks like there is high values on your result in the main channel on the top of the model...

Hello,

As Christophe said, it's hard to guess from where comes the issue without more details on your configuration... Maybe you can show us some comparisons that explain your problem ? details about how your model is set-up (previous computation file, liquid boundary file...).
Did you check the vertical references (bathymetry and prescribed elevations) ?

Laurent
