Dear colleagues:

I am currently trying to run Telemac2D forced by TPXO. The domain extends between two UTM zones (18F - 19F) and considers two boundary conditions (left and right boundary of the domain).

In the first instance, I ran T2D with a bathymetric file in UTM coordinates, using one of the two UTM zones (18F). The test was satisfactory and the model was forced with tide on the left boundary condition. The problem arose when loading the tide force in the right boundary condition.

As a solution, I transformed the coordinates of the bathymetric file to Latitude (from -90 to 90) and Longitude (from -180 to 180) and use the keywords:

INITIAL CONDITIONS = 'TPXO SATELLITE ALTIMETRY'
OPTION FOR LIQUID BOUNDARIES = 2; 2
OPTION FOR TIDAL BOUNDARY CONDITIONS = 1
GEOGRAPHIC SYSTEM = 1
SPATIAL PROJECTION TYPE = 3

I also used the following keywords, but I am not sure if they are correctly used.
LATITUDE OF ORIGIN POINT = -60
LONGITUDE OF ORIGIN POINT = -80

The model runs, but apparently it does not find the coordinates of the western boundary condition and does not load the corresponding tidal information.

I have performed the following tests without success:
• Transform the Longitudes between 0 and 360
• Use the keyword SPHERICAL COORDINATES = YES

Any contribution will be welcome.
Best regards, Jaime.

Hi Jaime,

Can you provide your geometry, conlim and steering files please ?
Which version are you using ?

Laurent

Thanks for your reply.

I am currently working with the v7p3r1 version. Unfortunately I am not authorized to publish the files you need. Is there the possibility of sending them to your personal email or internally? I hope this solution is possible.

Thank you very much. Best regards, Jaime.

Hello Jaime

For keyword OPTION FOR TIDAL BOUNDARY CONDITIONS, if you have 2 boundaries you have to introduce 2 values. By default this keyword is 0, so if you give only 1, this means that bopundary #2 will not be considered for tide. The right way to do is :
OPTION FOR TIDAL BOUNDARY CONDITIONS = 1;1

I hope that this helps

kind regards

Riadh

Hi Jaime,

Yes, as pointed out by Riadh, it's the first error.
The second one is in your boundary conditions file, you have to set 566 code also for the nodes of the east boundary (and not 444), as you did for the west one.
I'm doing some tests with your configuration and the extend of the boundaries, and will send it to you soon.

Laurent

Hi Jaime,

I sent you back your modified configuration on your personal mail box.
For the other forum users, and as discussed previously, the main modifications are:
- the value of the keyword OPTION FOR TIDAL BOUNDARY CONDITIONS according to your 2 liquid boundaries.
- the codes for the prescribed variables in your boundary conditions file.

Note that for an use of lat/lon real degrees, as already noticed in the forum on other related topics, I slightly modified the tpxo module as follow:

File Attachment:

File Name: tpxo_v7p3r1.f
File Size: 167 KB

I hope it helps.

Laurent
