TOPIC: Supercritical flow on steep slope

Supercritical flow on steep slope 5 years 6 months ago #33601

Hi,

I'm trying to simulate steady flow on a steep slope (1 in 35) on a 10m long channel (0.8m wide) using TELEMAC 2D. The channel sloping from x=10m (inflow) to x=0m (outflow). The inflow boundary condition is a discharge (30lps) and outflow boundary condition is water surface elevation (0.024m which is normal depth for this flow). The simulation is run for about 5min to reach uniform flow. With the given slope and discharge, we would expect a S2 profile (Gradually Varied Flow GVF profile on steep slope) as shown in the attached figure. But the simulation does not match this expected profile. The simulation files are attached for reference.

Second simulation is run for the same flow conditions but change in inflow boundary conditions. Instead of only discharge, I now gave the water surface elevation with critical flow depth as prescribed H at the inflow. But still the results do not improve.

Any suggestions on what could be changed in the model would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hello
Lots of things to improve in your steering file. However you can start with changing advection scheme ans change your infloW boundary condition. Sincères it is a supercritique flow you have to prescribe 2 conditions.
Finally if you use turbulence you will not ne able to comparé with analytical solution
Kind regards
