Hi,

I have been running tsunami simulations using Okada's example and it works fine. However, this model approximates the source fault as a single rectangle and to be more realistic, it is better to represent the ground motion as a patch of small rectangles (sub-faults) with their own characteristics.

I am wondering if there is any way (function) to segment the okada rectangle into small individual patches and then run the simulation of a tsunami. Or if there is any function to change the tsunami variables of okada at different time steps.
Thank you in advance,

Tomas

Hello Tomas,

I am not a specialist of the Okada model.
Anyway, reading the source code of okada.f module available in $HOMETEL/sources/telemac2d
I understand that the free surface displacement is not a rectangle but an ellipse with characteristics given by 2 components of the keyword (2nd and 3rd corresponding to fault length and fault width).

It is currenly hardcoded to treat a single ellipse and a displacement as initial condition but you can try to implement what you want in this OKADA module.

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan
