TOPIC: Flood inundation using T2D simulation

Flood inundation using T2D simulation 11 months 3 weeks ago #43741

Hello,

I am currently working on a project related to flood inundation. We built some embankments at the side of the river. And when the flood is coming, the embankment will be broken and the flow will enter the floodplain area. So the inflow boundary condition should be the embankment-break discharge from the river. However, this discharge should be calculated by coupling the 1D simulation of the river and the 2D simulation of the floodplain area. I am wondering if T2D can be coupled with Mascret 1D to simulate such flood inundation case?

Hi
The 1D-2D coupling available for the moment is a longitudinal coupling so you cannot use this for your purpose.
By the way, you could model the river in 2D and thus avoid the need of a coupling...

Hello Coulet,

Thank you for your reply. Using 2D simulation for the whole domain is too time-cosuming. I am trying to figure out some other solutions. I am looking forward that TELEMAC can solve such issue on flood inundations. Currently, I know the MIKE module can couple the 1D and 2D in longitudinal way.

Greetings,

As c.coulet explained you could model the river in 2D and maybe use the breach module to break the embankment as you would wish.

If possible I would also be interested to learn more about your project and test case, as I also work on similar subjects.

Best regards,

Zied

Hello, zied

The project I am working is related to creat the flood inundation map for an area. This area contains 2 streams. And we would like to simulate the inundation process if some embankments of the 2 rivers are broken.
