Hi,

I have a river geometry and the bed level data have negative elevations. Also, in this case, I will need to prescribe an initial condition with water elevation that will have a negative value (eg. -5m). I have been getting errors while running the simulation.

TREATMENT OF NEGATIVE DEPTHS = 2 OR 3
FOLLOWING OPTIONS ARE MANDATORY:
MASS-LUMPING ON H = 1.
AND CONTINUITY CORRECTION = YES
AND NO SUPG UPWINDING ON DEPTH
CHOOSE SUPG OPTION = ...;0;...

Therefore, I am wondering if it is possible to prescribe negative elevation values in Telemac 2D or should I change my datum and use only positive values? Please note that I am not prescribing flow depth but just the water surface elevation in both initial and boundary condtions.

Hi
As usual, what is the error?
There is no problem to prescribed negative free surface elevation in telemac...

Thank you for your prompt response. I am pasting the error message received after the simulation crashed.

Read the forum rules, to understand how posting (particularly about file needed)
Don't understand you copied the log message in your first post!
If you read it carefully you should be able to understand there is a problem in you steering file and with the written information, you should be able to correct it.

Thank you very much and my apologies for not being aware of the forum rules.

Yes, I believe there was an error in my steering file. I made the following changes and the simulation started:

SUPG OPTION = 0 changed to SUPG OPTION = 0;0

However, I do not understand if I am using SCHEME FOR ADVECTION OF VELOCITIES = 5 i.e. PSI distributive scheme, why am I required to specify the SUPG OPTION?

Thank you again for your insights.

The 2nd parameter of SUPG option is for the depth, not related with the scheme for advection of velocities!
