Hi everyone,

I use temeac v6p2 and I try to study the impact in terms of temperature of a heat exchanger immersed in the sea and I have two questions:

-How can I simulate a water dive heat exchanger (source without flow) ?

-How can I study the temperature fields around my exchanger ? Telemac can do it or do I need another software like DELWAQ ?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Valentin

Precisions: I want to simulate a closed heat exchanger which transfers all his power to the ocean and study the temperature field around it

Hello,

Normally you cannot have a source of heat without flow (it would give infinite temperature if you release heat where there is no water). Other possible solutions :

* to have a flux condition across a boundary but the heat exchanger would have to be a boundary

* to have a local source terms in the tracer equation (see subroutine difsou.f in Telemac-2D library), that would be a function of a local difference of temperature between exchanger and water. In this case think that the temperature in Telemac-2D is depth-averaged.

Hello Jean-Michel,

Thank you for your reply.

First option: "to have a flux condition across a boundary but the heat exchanger would have to be a boundary" -> Yes that what I want, the heat exchanger is a boundary condition but I don't know how to configure it in the software. How to set a boundary condition for a imposed flux ?

Second option: I downloaded the difsou.f. To be honest, I don't understand so much how to program and operate.

Any help with these will be much appreciated.

Please, find below my geo+bathy&boundary files (I have for the moment represented the exchanger with a little fluid boundary on the central solid portion to see it graphically).

Thanking you in advance.

Regards,

Valentin

Hello,

In 2D you cannot have the heat exchanger as a boundary condition, unless it is an island in the mesh.

In your boundary conditions file I find strange the lines with 1 1 1 (this is incident wave, no more used, instead we use the Thompson conditions) and the lines with 4 4 4 which is free output, so I do not see where you really prescribe boundary conditions. Please refer to the user manual, you should have physical values imposed somewhere, so some 5 or 6 in the boundary conditions file.

With best regards,
