Hi to everyone, I'm new to TELEMAC and I'd like to study it better. I'm actually studing tidal effects. I took the Mersey example and I tried to modify it to let it work on Hudson Estuary. So What did I do:

- I used BlueKenue to get geometry file from the bathymetry of the Hudson and then I imposed only a boundary condition at the end of the estuary (Open Boundary with prescribed H and free tracer). First question: Do I have to give other boundary conditions to let it works like Mersey Example?

- Once I modified it, I let it run on telemac (using the same BORD subroutine), I see a lot of: "Exceeding Maximum Iteration: 300", but then it works (without modifying H parametres of the example). The problem is that the Free Surface result looks like a plane that goes up and down... it'doesn't look like a tide. Am I doing something wrong? Second question: TELEMAC doesn't like when I try to modify the H from the BORD and from the STEERING, Isn't enough to change from STEERING: "INITIAL ELEVATION = 9" in "INITIAL ELEVATION = N" and from BORD: "H1 = 5.15D0+4.05D0*COS(PI*2.D0*AT1)" in " H1 = AD0+BD0*COS(PI*2.D0*AT1)"?

- Third (and last, promised) question: what about if I want to add Q boundary? Do I have to add it in the BORD file too?

Thanks to everyone who read.
Federico

Hello Federico,

Some hints:

question 1: you may want t oadd also a discharge in the upstream river.
question 2: depending on your mesh size, you may have to change the time step. Note also that the keyword INITIAL ELEVATION is treated in subroutine condin.f that gives the initial conditions everywhere, not only on the boundary, so you must keep this keyword.
question 3: you can add another boundary (see the boundary conditions file and the documentation), in this case you will get two liquid boundaries. If your upstream river is boundary 2, you can give its discharge (example 50 m3/s) with the keyword :

PRESCRIBED DISCHARGES : 0.;50.

the first 0. refering to boundary 1 is discarded because this boundary has a prescribed elevation.

With best regards,

Jean-Michel Hervouet

A couple of observations.

Your grid coordinate system is Lat-Long. You need to tell telemac this via the SPATIAL PROJECTION TYPE parameter.

You also need to resolve the hudson river in more detail.

Cheers... Martin
