Good morning

As input: height (h) and velocity (u, v) data tidal of the boundary conditions.

Thanks for your reply

Hi Gio,

The question is quite unclear. Can you please state the question
more precisely as what is required.

Is it that you are looking as how to get the history listing of the tidal heights and velocities at the boundaries, or is it that you want to know as how to force tidal heights and velocities at the boundaries?

Regards,
Gourish

Sorry for my English Gourish.

1. I can not do the simulation with data from TPXO (h_tpxo7.2 and v_tpxo7.2).
2. Now I'm trying to make a choice:
3. I have three curves of TPXO curves h (t), u (t), v (t).
4. As 3. is introduced into TELEMAC for simulate tides? (within:
Liquide hauteur et vitesses imposées)

Thanks for your reply

Hi Gio,

As far as I understand you have now extracted the h,u and v data from TPXO
tidal extraction program, and now you want to force the extracted data on the boundary, is it correct as what I have understood?

If that is the case, then I think the TPXO module in Telemac does just the same process internally, by extracting the tide and velocities to be forced at the boundary. Subsequently, I would rather advice you to use the TPXO data, to run the model with TPXO forcing, and try to get the simulation correct. There are calibration parameter, COEFFICIENT TO CALIBRATE TIDAL RANGE, COEFFICIENT TO CALIBRATE TIDAL VELOCITIES, COEFFICIENT TO CALIBRATE SEA LEVEL, which you can modify.

Apparently if you simulation region lies in the area where TPXO data is not properly resolved then you may run a model with large area covering the TPXO grid region (you can visualize the TPXO grid from the site, for example volkov.oce.orst.edu/tides/IO.html), and then extract the tide and current for a smaller region model at the boundaries. However it is a bit more difficult process.

May I know as what difficult you are facing in running the simulation with TPXO data, possibly we can help you in solving the problem.

With best regards,
Gourish

Hello Gourish

Thanks for your reply
is exactly the problem.
Now the calculation is frozen in this line.

you have any suggestions?
you need more data to analyze?

Thanks for your support, comments and suggestions.

Cordially

Hi Gio,

As I can observe, I think the model simulation has not frozen, but it is still calculating. The number of nodes in your model is very high of about 152558, and perhaps you are running on a single processor system. So possibly it is taking a long time to run. Modify the graphics display time to a lesser number of time step, and check the output display. For example if the time step is 1 seconds, and the graphics output time 3600, then change it to 10.

Have you also tried running the simulation in parallel, may be using 4 processors at least. You may post your steering file for further analysis.

Hope this helps,
With Best regards,
Gourish

Hello Gio,

From the steering file I can observe that you are running in serial mode.
Please change PERIODE DE SORTIE LISTING = 30, so that the listing can be made at a lesser time step.

You may even check with PERIODE DE SORTIE LISTING = 1, for testing.
Since the geometry file has large number of nodes (of size 152558), you may further try to run the model in parallel, once when you have checked that the run is progressing. Or you may even try to reduce the number of nodes, or optimize it as per the requirement, for example in the open ocean boundary you may not require elements of fine resolution. Is the geometry mesh file having a uniform mesh size, or is it irregular?

As an example you can check the geometry file in examples\telemac2d\tide folder.

With Best regards,
Gourish

Hello Gourish
Thank you very much for your suggestions I made the simulation uuffff :)

As I can see the geographical coordinates of TPXO results?.
It is a question only for safety and for the accuracy of the results.

Thank you very much for your answer and Happy 2015.

Cordially.
Gio
