Hello everyone,

i have some troubles in modelling dykes along a river. In the manual it is recomended to model dykes using 5 points (2 at the bottom and 3 at the top of the dyke) to prevent unreasonable overflowing. This works quite well for regular dams, however at some part of my river instead of a dyke is there a vertical concrete wall with a height of 2m directly on the river bottom. So the method with additional points here does not work using normal sized grid, so far i get there always overflowing. Is there a possibility to model vertical walls in telemac 2D? I dont want to extract this points and create islands in the mesh, because at a flood event this location may be really overflowed.

Another thing to mention is that i want just create a stable 2D initial case for a following 3D simulation. So provably in 3D this problem can be solved easily. Has anyone some experiences on this?

Best regards,

Markus

Hello,

Of course you can model vertical walls, like a normal boundary, except that they will not be overflowed. 5 points is a minimum, it is recommended to add more. For an example of a model with many dykes, see the case donau of telemac-2D examples. See also the keyword "THRESHOLD DEPTH FOR RECEDING PROCEDURE" that may avoid (sometimes) artificial flooding of dykes.
