Hellow
I wonder if the telemac can simulate the storm surge.
(ex. Simulation of sea level or tidal level in accordance with changes in the movement of typhoon and sea level pressure)
If it is possible, what should I use to model, telemac2d?, telemac3d?, tomawac?
Thank you.

Hello,

Storm surges due to variations of atmospheric pressure can be simulated with Telemac-2D and 3D. Tomawac does the wave generation and propagation by wind.

For storm surges you must be aware that they occur on large domains and that only the gradients of atmospheric pressure in your domain will do something. So in a small lake communicating with the sea you will not see a storm surge if your domain is only the small lake.

Thank you for your reply.

The study site for storm surge is the west coast in Korea, model doamin is East China Sea.

Simply, is it going to be considering spatial and temoral atmospheric pressure data for storm surge using telemac2d or telemac3d?

If you answer to this questions, I'll study the storm surge modeling in detail.

Best regards,

CHO

Hello,

As storm surges are very long waves, just like tides, Telemac-2D is well adapted.

Hello

Yes Telemac-2D and Telemac-3D can consider space and time varying atmospheric pressure. However, this case is not managed only by keywords (as for constant pressure) but you need to adapt some fortran subroutines and to manage I/O data files.
The case wind_txy in the validation folder of Telemac-2d gives an example of space and time varying wind. You can adapt it easily for atmospheric pressure.

I hope that this helps

Thank you Hervouet and Riadh

In general, excluding the non-linear interaction tends to over estimate storm surge wave using tide, wind and atmospheric pressure, without wave.
So, a wave-surge-tide coupled model was develped to consider non-linear interaction in recent study.
I wonder if the Telemac-2d and Tomawac can be coupled for considering non-linear interaction?
such as ADCIRC and UNSWAN

I know how to input the time varying wind.
1. SUBROUTINE METEO - MY_OPTION = 2
2. make timeseries of wind U and V

But I have no idea how to input the spacing varying wind.

The example in wind folder is adapted constant wind in spacing.

What should I do? Could you please tell me the method?

Thank you.

Hello

Telemac-2D and Tomawac are internally coupled and thus can be used in a coupled way. See user manual of Telemac-2D and the one of Tomawac for more in depth details.
