Hi everybody,

I would like to impose a tidal wave at a boundary (programming SL.f or bord.f) but I also want to let another tidal wave (traveling in the opposite direction) leave the domain.

Is it possible to let a wave leaving the domain as a free exit by a boundary where another wave is entering?

5 4 4 with thompson on both side doesn't work when the wave coming from the model meet the other boundary.

Regards,
Alexis

Hello,

It is what Thompson should be able to do, with the entering wave giving the Riemann invariants on one side and the exiting wave giving them on the other side. However 5 4 4 only gives the prescribed elevation of the incoming wave, not the velocity, this could be a problem and maybe 5 6 6 and giving the velocity would give a different result. However this is a theory with assumptions, in fact once the exiting wave has crossed the open boundary it influences the incoming wave and prescribing only the original pure wave is a mistake, so let's say that the Thompson's theory is the best that we can do to cope with a missing part in the domain.

With best regards,

Yes, Imposing two different waves at the same boundary (one leaving and one entering) is challenging.
At one stage, the water level at the boundary will be a superimposition of two waves and imposing just the entering wave is not correct.

OK for 5 6 6 instead of 5 4 4
