Dear All,

I adjust BOTTOM FICTION COEFFICIENT (Manning) to calibrate my 2D TELEMAC model. The model has an open boundary that extends to open sea. I have prescribed that area with BOUNDARY CODE: Open boundary with prescribed UV&H; Free tracer. Hydrodynamics in this model are dominated by astronomical tides.

When I got calibration results of water levels with a value of fiction coefficient (e.g = 0.05), then I use that value (0.05) to calibrate velocity (magnitude, and direction) at that location, but I am not able to get good calibration results in terms of velocity. Particularly, modelled magnitudes are usually lower than measured data. I don't know what wrong with my model?

Could someone please give me some suggestions how to solve it? and have a look in my steering, boundary and geometry files to find out what wrong I probably made :( ?

Thank you so much.

Best Regards

Huy

Hello,

First thing to look at: the velocities in Telemac-2D are depth-averaged, are your data depth-averaged?

Dear JMH,

I used predicted tides to calibrate water levels in the area of interest, and velocity (direction, magnitude) are taken from site observations, measured by wave recorders. Note that hydrodynamics are dominated by astronomical tides, from previous study, I also used the same data to calibrate the model in DELFT3D, i got good calibration and validation results.

Do you have anymore suggestions?

Hello,

Then look at the influence of the turbulent diffusion, and the 2 implicitation coefficients, which have an influence on wave propagation.

what are the 2 implicitation coefficients that you mentioned? are they tidal range and velocities?

Hi JHM & Everyone,

I do calibration 2D model. I got unusual results as I attach here. Modelled water level is very high compared with predicted tides, while velocity is considerably lower than measured data. I use Manning Fiction Law to calibrate the model (I have tried with other fiction laws, but the results are still same). With Manning fiction, I have tried to increase fiction coefficient up 5 (=5) to see if the water level can reduce, but it did not change much :(

P/s: the result I attach here is at the entrance of the bay where the velocity is normally higher than other locations as this area plays a very important role in exchanging water with the ocean.

Can you help me and suggest me how to solve this problem?

Thank you so much

Best Regards
Huy
