TOPIC: Finite volume problem

Finite volume problem 8 years 5 months ago #22079

Hello everyone

I have a problem with the following modeling, originally I did run the model with finite elements, trying to adjust better modeling method to replace the finite volume but this last throws me too low velocities throughout the domain(0,001m/s at the entrance, Q=1000m3/s for example).

Is there any way to fix this?

Hello,

I would advise to start with finite elements which are much faster, inspiring from an example like the one called wesel and the steering file t2d_wesel.cas, adapted to your case, removing all unnecessary comments and removing also preconditioning : 11 and solver : 8. Then try to choose a constant time step that gives a CFL number (U*DT/DX) around 1, and see what happens. Then we can refine keywords in view of the results.

Biobio river: hum, I guess you are in Chile not far from Concepcion... nice place.

Que le vaya bien,

thank you very much for your answer Jean-Michel Hervouet

I did what you indicated but the problem is with finite volumes, finite element have no problem in modeling, but when I try to just switch to the finite volume problem occurs at low speeds. What are the changes you need to do to change to finite volumes other than the passage of time variable and adjust the CFL?
