Dear all,

I am setting up a telemac model to calculate some inundation areas. In the inundated area I have some weirs. As I undestand it, I would have to break the mesh completely in order to implement a weir (as in the "Weir" example file).

In my case, the weir is located in a valley bottom and the floodwave will also flow through the adjacent plane, i.e. around the weir.

The geometry looks something like this, so first the weir will operate normally, and with rising water levels the water will also flood the plane on the left abutment:
                ____________________
_____ /
     \________/
      \_WEIR_/

Is there a "proper way" to implement such a situation in Telemac? Can I only break the mesh in the location of the weir (=cut a hole in it)? I feel like completely breaking the mesh would result in problems regarding the overbank flow.

Thanks!

Hello,

The only other possibility is to mesh also the weir, this is what I would do. The only problem is that Saint-Venant equations do not give the exact discharge over weirs, depending on their geometry, but this could be second order in your case, when the flood comes.

With best regards,
