Hello

In the suspended load formulation, I'm not clear if the effect of waves can be included in the equilibrium near-bed concentration. The Zyserman and Fredsoe ([35], 1994) formulation appears only to take account of current stress.

There seems to be an option to calculate the equilibrium near-bed concentration from the bedload concentration. Does anyone know if this later option works with the bedload formulae that allow wave effects to be included?

A possible problem is the bedload formulae that include waves also seem to attempt to calculate suspended load - which is not what I want.

Thanks
John

Hello,

The answer is yes; you should be able to apply a wave transport formula for bed load - including the Bijker formula - and then for suspended load, use the Bijker equilibrium concentration (which is a function of bedload) - *

If you need to program your own equilibrium transport formula, we can give you some help.

Hello Cath,

Thanks for your reply.

The Bijker formulae (ICF=4) appears to calcuate a suspended load contribution, so if used in conjunction with SUSPENSION=YES it seems the suspended load will be included twice?

In fact all the wave bedload formulae try to calcuate suspended load as well ?

It seems like I need to zero the suspended load part of the Bijker formulae if SUSPENSION=YES?

Would that be recomended?

Thanks
John

Hello,

If you compute the suspended load (SUSPENSION = YES), then only the bedload component of the Bijker formula is accounted for, since the suspended load is calculated by solving the suspended sediment transport equation. (no duplication of the suspended load).

I hope this answers your question.
